Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has prepared the outlines/blueprint of the New National Food Processing policy;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether only seventeen mega food parks have been set up in the country so far;
(d) if so, the details thereof and the reasons for not setting up even a single mega food park in Haryana;
(e) whether the Government proposes to set up any mega food park in the Parliamentary Constituencies of Kurukshetra and Karnal in coordination with the State Government; and
(f) if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (f) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 36 ANSWER ON 20TH JULY, 2021 REGARDING “NATIONAL FOOD PROCESSING POLICY”
(a) & (b): Yes Sir, Ministry of Food Processing Industries has prepared a blueprint for National Food Processing Policy.
The draft policy aims for the development of the food processing sector by addressing the critical gaps hampering its growth. It provides for a stable policy framework over the next 15 years to give impetus to the development of the sector. Some of the key objectives and strategies of the policy are -(i) Increasing level of processing and preservation of perishables; (ii) Reducing wastages and increasing value addition leading to higher income of farmers; (iii) Increasing access to credit at affordable cost; (iv) Enhancing availability of safer, affordable and nutritionally balanced food products to the consumers; (v) Promoting cluster approach for intervention in the sector; (vi) Developing value chain for perishables; (vii) Strengthening unorganized food processing sector, (viii) Supporting Research activities in food products & processes etc.
(c) to (f): Ministry of Food Processing Industries provides financial assistance for setting up of Mega Food Parks (MFPs) in the country. Proposals under the scheme are invited through Expression of Interest from the eligible organizations. So far, 41 MFP projects have been approved and 22 MFPs have been made operational. 2 MFPs are sanctioned in the state of Haryana, which are located in Rohtak and Sonipat. At present, there is no proposal under consideration for setting up of MFPs in Kurukshetra and Karnal. Details of the 41 projects are placed at Annexure.
