SAINIK SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY
368 SHRI RAGHAV CHADHA:
Will the Minister of Defence be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Sainik Schools in the country, the details thereof, State-wise;
(b) whether Government is planning to open more Sainik Schools for girls and boys in various parts of the country;
(c) whether there are no Sainik Schools particularly for girls, if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether Government plans to construct/setup more Sainik Schools for girls particularly in the State of Punjab;
(e) whether the State Government of Punjab has sent any proposal to Central Government for setting up of Sainik Schools for both girls and boys; and
(f) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI AJAY BHATT) IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
(a) & (b): The Government has approved an initiative to set up 100 New Sainik Schools across the country in partnership mode with NGOs/ Private/ State Government Schools. State- wise details of Sainik Schools (on erstwhile pattern) and New Sainik Schools in partnership mode with whom Sainik Schools Society has signed Memorandum of Agreement are placed at Annexure-I and Annexure-II, respectively.
(c) & (d): Admission of girl cadets was first stated on pilot basis in Sainik School Chhingchhip during the Academic Year 2018-19 as per the policy promulgated by Sainik Schools Society. After the success of pilot project all existing Sainik Schools under erstwhile pattern, including Sainik School Kapurthala, Punjab are now giving admission to girls upto 10% of vacancies in Class VI or 10 girls, whichever is higher. In so far as new Sainik Schools in partnership mode is concerned, these Schools are open for boys/ girls/ co-education basis. Further, one new Sainik School in Partnership mode approved and operational in Patiala district of Punjab is a co-education School.
(e) & (f): A proposal for establishment of Sainik School at Gurdaspur in Punjab on the erstwhile pattern was forwarded by State Government of Punjab. It was decided by Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence, that before considering the proposal of the State Government for opening of New Sainik School at Gurdaspur district in Punjab, under the erstwhile pattern, the State Government should sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Sainik Schools Society in respect of existing Sainik School in Kapurthala district, Punjab, which is already functional.
