Dear Sir,
Sub: Act Apprentices inducted by the Administrations for training in Railway.
Workshops/Sheds/ Depots etc., – entitlement of medical facilities to Act Apprentices- reg.
The Railway Administrations have been drawing the select list of candidates for providing them Apprenticeship in Railway Workshops, Depots, Sheds etc., as per the quota allotted to each Zone/Production Unit. All such selected candidates undergo training, duration of which is 3 years.
Of late, due to heavy shortage of staff as a result of non-filling of vacancies, the Act Apprentices meant for training are utilized for regular skill activities in various Workshops/Sheds/Depots etc. Sadly, they are not made eligible for medical facilities. Representations are being received from Apprentices seeking entitlement of medical facilities as they are being made to perform full-fledged skill work. NFIR is of the view that the request of Apprentices is genuine, therefore the Railway Administration should extend medical facilities in view of the fact that they are not only availing training but also performing skill nature of duties in the course of training.
NFIR, therefore, requests the Railway Board to kindly review the extant policy and accord sanction to facilitate Act Apprentices to avail health care facilities in the Railway Hospitals/Health Units
Yours faithfully,
sd/-
(Dr.M. Raghavaigh)
General Secretary
